Wharton Esherick [1887-1970] style music stand

Honduras Mahogany was used to create this music stand. I made a poplar prototype to examine production sequences, joinery techniques and to gain a better feel for design decisions. The Esherick design has a wonderful teardrop shaped shelf on the lower stretchers. Initially, I decided to forego that element as I liked the open look. However, after living with the stand for a while, I created the shelf. I was surprised at how much more unified the piece appeared with that small addition.
