Wit's End Guest Ranch & Spa

We are planning a trip out west. My husband and the boys would like a ranch adventure, which is fine, but I’d prefer pampering and relaxation to go with my time in the great outdoors. We always enjoy the Rocky Mountain region. Do you have any suggestions to keep us all smiling?

Morning greets you at Wit’s End Guest Ranch, Resort and Spa as the sun rises above the 13,000-foot, snow-capped peaks of the San Juan National Forest. You’ve slept well in a lovingly restored historic cabin and your spirit soars in the thin, crisp mountain air. Later today you will be hiking in the Weminuche Wilderness; horseback riding up to Middle Mountain for lunch; fly fishing in a crystal clear, fast running mountain stream or you may choose to send the family off on adventure while you relax on the porch swing reading a book before heading off to your custom spa treatment.

At Wit’s End you make your plans and your own experience. Each family member may indulge their personal passions or your may play together. The choice is yours. Wit’s End is very much a family treasure lovingly shared with the guests. Owners Jim and Karen Custer play host to many families that return to year after year indulging passions such as fly fishing, camping in the national forest or riding horses all day, every day.

Meals at the ranch are truly amazing. Executive chef Greg Straub’s unbridled passion for people and food, result in a experience which is natural and unfussy, yet artistic, healthy and delicious. Lean game meats such as elk, venison and buffalo unite with chanterelles, boletus, porcini mushrooms and regional produce creating meals bursting with flavor. Low carb and vegetarian devotees are brilliantly accommodated. Even the hay ride BBQ with traditional cowboy beans quietly showcases Greg’s enthusiasm for healthful alternatives.
Spa director Leslie McGownd has created numerous treatments to heal, energize and pamper. We were intrigued by the new “As Above, So Below” treatment. Floating back to our cabin we knew we had made an excellent choice. Other signature indulgences are available or custom treatments can be created.

Wit’s End offers a weekly American plan which includes activities, lodging, meals, spa and fitness facilities and even a massage. Some extended wilderness trips and many of the spa treatments are extra cost options. Wit’s End is an Orvis endorsed fly fishing lodge.
